چکیده

Abstract Background Diversification of global food systems through exploration traditional varieties and wild edible plant species is a focal mitigation strategy for security worldwide. The present study determined the phenomic diversity locally available, affordable climate-resilient cultivated Crotalaria breeding purposes. Methods Seed samples were collected from different administrative counties in Kenya spanning climatic zones. Other seeds provided by Genetic Resources Research Institute Kenya. A randomized complete block design with three replications was used agro-morphological evaluation 83 accessions this study. Data on quantitative qualitative traits collected. Cluster analysis R R-studio to generate dendrogram Euclidian genetic distance dissimilarity indices while non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) method determine spatial interrelationship between accessions. Pearson’s correlation coefficients relationships principal component discriminate Results Three ( C. brevidens Benth., ochroleuca G.Don, trichotoma Bojer . ) found be Kenyan farmers significant variation (p < 0.0001) all parameters under recorded. Agglomerative hierarchical clustering grouped into 8 major clusters. NMDS ordination formed 15 6 groups based regions respectively. Conclusions This forms basis exploring novel strategies among species, as well determining molecular markers linked traits.

Leveraging genomic prediction to scan germplasm collection for crop improvement

The objective of this study was to explore the potential of genomic prediction (GP) for soybean resistance against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary, the causal agent of white mold (WM). A diverse panel of 465 soybean plant introduction accessions was phenotyped for WM resistance in replicated field and greenhouse tests. All plant accessions were previously genotyped using the SoySNP50K B...

BREEDING FOR IMPROVING FIBRE YIELD AND GREEN BIOMASS IN SUNNHEMP (Crotalaria juncea L.) GERMPLASM

Fifteen genetically diverse parental genotypes of sunnhemp belonging to different geographical origin were assessed to evaluate general and specific combining ability of parents and cross combinations, respectively, for selecting the superior parent combination. For this, fifteen parents and their 105 F1s were grown in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications and data were collec...

Minichromosomes: Vectors for Crop Improvement

Minichromosome technology has the potential to offer a number of possibilities for expanding current biofortification strategies. While conventional genome manipulations rely on random integration of one or a few genes, engineered minichromosomes would enable researchers to concatenate several gene aggregates into a single independent chromosome. These engineered minichromosomes can be rapidly ...
